Management of Iron Deficiency and Heavy Menstrual Bleeding

A review of 22 out of 55 guidelines on heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) management revealed varied approaches to anemia screening, iron deficiency (ID) detection, and treatment options. Most guidelines recommend anemia screening, but methods for ID assessment vary. Treatment often includes oral iron for ID/IDA, with intravenous iron suggested for severe cases. The review indicates a potential underdiagnosis and undertreatment of ID/IDA in HMB patients, highlighting the need for consistent guidelines to improve health outcomes.
